By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,
Can you spot in the chart above which nation just eliminated their last coal plant by looking at industrial electricity prices?
It is easy; it is the nation with the highest electricity prices. That is the United Kingdom, with the highest electricity prices among these selected nations. These prices are nearly triple those of the United States.
This is just like Oregon, which recently closed their last coal plant — and since then prices have increased 50% in the past few years.
Those high commercial electricity prices in the United Kingdom are causing businesses to relocate, further weakening their sluggish economy. The British people are stuck with more unemployment, high utility costs and more poverty.
Ask yourself, what happens to the coal that the UK and Oregon no longer burn? Some of that coal is now burned by lesser developed nations, which use have less environmental controls on their cola plant emissions. This means the same coal that could be used to keep prices down in Oregon is now burned with more pollution in other places. There is no carbon savings.
