The few days before New Year’s Eve, the State of Washington allowed dealers to sell fireworks. This has become an opportune time for Oregonians to travel north to purchase what they need ahead of July 4th — especially for some who seek items that are not available in Oregon. One Oregonian traveling to Washington this week shared what was experienced at the Firework store. The visitor requested Roman candles (not sold in Oregon) and was told that the day before, another Oregonian came and bought the entire supply.
This may be a sign to come.
With America’s 250th anniversary next year, demand will be higher and supplies may be more limited than normal. Also, with tariffs, there have been many goods from China that have been blocked or priced out. For instance, this Christmas there were slightly less toys and fewer Christmas decorations on the shelves than in prior times. Customers may not have noticed this phenomenon because stores raised prices which limited sales. If you take those two factors together of the potential tariff risk and increased demand due to the 250th, there could be added risk of diminished supply of Oregon fireworks come July 4th.
