The plan to create a new casino near Medford, Oregon is advancing as the President Biden administration has given signs of approval for a Coquille tribe plan for their Medford casino. This is part of a 12-year long battle for the tribe. It would be a 30,000-square-foot casino with 650 gaming machines. It would be a class 2 casino with limited offerings of other class 3 casinos in Oregon.
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden was upset as he stated, ““this appears to set Oregon up on a path where decision makers 3000 miles away spawn a gambling arms race, changing our state forever”. Congressman Cliff Bentz is also in opposition.
The federal review of the project said it “would provide the Tribe with the best opportunity for securing a viable means of attracting and maintaining a long-term, sustainable revenue stream for the tribal government”
Oregon currently has 8 casinos operating within the state.
